Those who wish to work in television repair should complete a certificate or associate degree program in electronics. Enrollees learn about electric currents, safety procedures and advanced electronics. The largest schools in the nation which provide electronics repair programs are all located in California: Riverside Community College, City College of San Francisco and American River College.

Television Repair Specialist Certificate

Enrollees become familiar with the different types of television hardware, operations and accessories. They study digital and LCD screens as well as cable and fiber optics connectivity. This certificate qualifies graduates for an entry-level position in the field of appliance repair, with room for advancement with experience. They are also prepared to pursue more advanced certificates that correspond with electronics and emerging technologies. Certificate-holders are able to work for an electronics repair shop or cable company; they may also choose to work with private clients as contractors.

Associate of Applied Science in Electronics

An electronics associate's degree consists of special electronics technology coursework which prepares students for entry-level positions in electronic repair and assembly. Electronic concepts include AC and DC circuits, resistors and resistance, magnetism, atomic theory, multimeters, current, power relationships and Watt's Law. Students hone their knowledge of computer repair through classes on hardware, system requirements, networking, communications and troubleshooting. This degree allows graduates to work installing, maintaining and repairing several types of electronics for home and the office, including televisions and small appliances.
