Sustainable Development: Theory and Policy: Course Description

Professor Nazli Choucri originally taught this course. The course looks at creating and adopting sustainable concepts. Sustainability is an area of political science that studies the overlapping area where cost, society and environment meet.

This course examines ways for allowing public needs to be harvested for a reasonable price while maintaining a healthy and stable environment. Choucri examines the differences between today's development and sustainable practices to illustrate sociopolitical, economic and environmental factors that play a role in consumption and production.

Sustainability's impact on regulation and policy is studied as well as a new way of thinking about sustainability called the 'knowledge domain.' Lectures are focused on ways that sustainability can be implemented on any level.

Course materials, such as lecture, a detailed reading list and exams, are available. To view the information or learn more about sustainability in development, visit the course page.
