Qualitative Research (Design and Method): Course Description
What factors are involved in designing and conducting a successful research project? What ethical issues should qualitative researchers consider? This free course answers these questions and is aimed at students who are interested in carrying out qualitative research, which is the type of research most commonly used in the social sciences. Qualitative research does not have data that can be easily quantified, but 'Qualitative Research: Design and Method' teaches students how to effectively use various qualitative methodologies. They are introduced to a variety of research methods, including interviews, case studies, surveys and observations. This course provides students with an awareness of ethical issues and an understanding of philosophical and behavioral issues with regards to research in the social sciences. Students will study published studies to learn about research project construction and will then apply these skills on their own projects. Developed by Professor Richard Locke, this course was originally offered through the Political Science Department of MIT.
'Qualitative Research: Design and Method' OpenCourseWare includes a syllabus, assignment suggestions and an extensive reading list. If you're interested in this free online course, visit the qualitative political science research course page.
