The Emergence of Europe (500-1300): Course Description

'The Emergence of Europe (500-1300)' is taught by Professor Anne McCants and is designed for students with an interest in the history of Europe. Specifically, the course looks at the period between the years of 500 and 1300 with an emphasis on the political, social and cultural developments of Europe. Other topics to be discussed include the Germanic conquest of the ancient Mediterranean world, the rise of feudalism, religious life in Europe and major catastrophes of the 14th Century. These subjects are considered from a historian's perspective. The course concludes with four discussion papers.
