Audio Technology Degree: Course Curriculum for an Audio Technology Degree Program
A degree in audio technology prepares students to work in the technical or business management area of the music or broadcast business. Depending on what level of degree is obtained, students may study music theory, audio technology fundamentals or psychoacoustical principles of music.
Course Curriculum for an Associate's in Audio Technology
Students in an audio technology associate's degree program may study technical and business management courses. Courses covered in this type of program may include introduction to audio technology and studio equipment, signal flow, theory of music, sequencing, mixing techniques and amplifiers. In addition, copyright law, surround sound principles, synchronization and digital audio technology may also be studied. Individuals with an associate's degree in audio technology will find entry-level employment as a record company professional, recording engineer, studio manager or audio film editor.
Course Curriculum for a Bachelor's in Audio Technology
A bachelor's degree in audio technology program may include courses, such as the fundamentals of audio technology, creative sound strategies, digital audio techniques, acoustical physics, harmony, studio management, sound synthesis, audio industry management and sound production. Students may also study computer science engineering and physics courses related to sound principles. A graduate of this type of program may find employment with television studios, production companies, recording studios and live musical production companies associated with Broadway productions or popular music artists.
Course Curriculum for a Master's in Audio Technology
A master's degree in audio technology includes more advanced and in-depth audio technology courses. Students at this degree level may study advanced digital audio principles and electronics, psychology of music, digital signal processing, integrated digital circuits, psychoacoustical principles of music and computer graphics. Some master's degree programs in audio technology require numerous electrical engineering courses and computer science courses too. Graduates with a master's degree in audio technology often work for music software design companies and digital audio technology production studios. Many graduates go on to pursue doctoral degrees in audio technology.
