Technology and Society: Course Description

Professional engineers have environmental, economic, cultural and social responsibilities. However, environmental forces, evolution of cultures within society and economic pressure change the expectations of society towards the engineering profession. The products and works of engineers benefit society but may harm the environment or people. Engineers must be knowledge about these issue and 'Technology and Society' OpenCourseWare endeavored to impart the knowledge and skills engineers need to contribute and promote public debate and to find other options that protect the environment and are more acceptable socially. The original course was taught by Dr. David Thorpe. This course was given in the Faculty of Engineering and potential or practicing engineers may find the course interesting.
