Educational programs emphasizing Web Programming prepare students for careers as web developers, internet specialists, webmasters and application developers. Enrolling in a Web Programming Degree Program

Programs in Web Programming are often offered at the associate's degree level. Programs are offered both online and traditional on-campus formats. Many degrees are offered in a related area, such as computer support technology or information systems technology with an emphasis on Web Programming. Online programs may offer more flexibility in starting and completing the program while on-campus programs might require students to enroll and start the program in the fall. Admission requirements vary by program.

Some require a placement test or a minimum high school grade point average in related coursework. Many associate's degree programs are designed for beginners with no previous knowledge in the area. However, experience with computer applications, such as spread sheets, word processing and presentation graphics can be beneficial.

Completing a Web Programming Degree Program

Associate's degree programs in Web Programming generally take two years to complete. Programs may be full-time, requiring students to attend class a set number of hours per semester. Other programs are part-time and designed for working professionals. Online programs allow maximum flexibility with both scheduling and program length. Many programs require students to complete the coursework within a specified time frame.

Students gain the skills to design and develop web-based applications, user interfaces, databases and multimedia applications. Coursework covers programming basics, website design, graphics and animation, functionality, multimedia techniques, database design and specific products, such as Java, Visual Basic, Ajax, PERL or MYSQL. Some programs offer Web Programming internship opportunities where students apply their knowledge and gain real world experience.
