Details of Computer Programming Degree Programs

Associate's of Applied Science in Computer Programming

An associate's degree in Computer Programming prepares graduates for entry-level careers in the field. The curriculum focuses on programming languages, such as C++, C# and Java. Students learn to use programming packages from Oracle, Microsoft and Cisco. Other topics may cover databases, Visual Basic, JavaScript, SQL, PHP, UNIX and networking systems. Students may also take courses in systems analysis and Internet programming.

Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Computer Programming

A bachelor's degree in Computer Programming typically includes some elements in computer science, computer engineering and computer information systems. In addition to learning all the common programming languages, students in such a program learn algorithm design, solution implementation, and program correctness and verification. Courses also cover object-oriented programming, discrete methods, programming systems design and Internet programming.

Master of Science (M.S.) in Computer Programming

A master's degree in Computer Science includes advanced programming and research methods. In addition to Java and C++, students learn to use algorithms, high-level programming languages, procedural and data abstractions, variable manipulation, validation forms, script writing and command line arguments. Courses may also cover multi-threaded programs, data structures, client-server programming, web-based applications and XML. Students may also learn about wireless systems, databases, operating systems and software programming. Students can continue their studies in advanced programming and research in a doctorate degree program.
