Sustainable Transportation Plan for MIT: Course Description
This free OpenCourseWare offering began as a student-led initiative. Joined by three instructors, John Attanucci, Lawrence Brutti and Frederick Salvucci, they looked at the current status of campus parking and transportation and began researching options. MIT is located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, a small city within the sprawl of Boston, so public transportation is available. The students looked at possible policy changes and other public transportation subsidies and parking fees. As all changes have multiple effects, they considered the unintended consequences that might come from changing subsidies, fees and policies. At the end of the class, they had designed a plan acceptable to all of them. The final plan and student presentation to the MIT community cap this course. Students who complete this course will understand the practicalities and challenges of developing a sustainable transportation plan.
The downloads are unusually complete. All discussions, student presentations, the final plan and the community presentation are included. Learn more by visiting the sustainable transportation plan for MIT course page.
