Sites in Sight - Photography as Inquiry: Course Description
This master's level Architecture course emphasizes photography as an observational tool. Students visit a nearby site frequently, keeping a journal of photographs accompanied by written text. Students examine their chosen sites for variations of light, for important, telling details and to develop their poetic expression. Students build on this work to create an online essay illustrated with photographs. This course requires some familiarity with photography and access to a camera. MIT professor Anne Whiston Spirn teaches the course.
This OpenCourseWare includes detailed descriptions of the requirements for the assignments, an extensive reading list, past students' projects and a link to the class website, where users can see more examples of student work.
