Architectural Design Workshop (Rethinking Office Development): Course Description
The focus of this OpenCourseWare was to understand how current social, technological and economic trends affected the design of the workplace. Students surveyed office design patterns from the past thirty years to determine what had changed and what had stayed the same. They also tried to discover why the U.S. has lagged behind Europe in office design and development. In addition, students attempted to determine ways to stimulate interest in office design. The original on-campus workshop included an assignment to create a new service, feature or office product. The instructions for this assignment are included in the OpenCourseWare. Professor Francis Duffy, a visiting professor at MIT from 2001 to 2004, taught the original workshop. This is a graduate-level course intended for students majoring in Architecture. The OpenCourseWare is based on reading selections and lecture-notes.
'Architectural Design Workshop - Rethinking Office Development' OpenCourseWare includes a recommended text, lecture-notes, an assignment from the original course and examples of student projects.
