Language and Communication (Research): Course Description

'Language and Communication: Research,' is the third course in a series on language and communication offered by Western Governors University (WGU). It is composed of six modules that are offered for self-study. A core course in several Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degree programs at Western Governors University, the class focused on drafting a research paper by following steps summarized in the course guidelines. Subject matters covered in the various classes include selecting a topic, creating an annotated bibliography and paraphrasing and synthesizing research. Additional topics covered are creating a writing plan and drafting, revising and submitting the final draft. Keeping a journal of the research process is suggested as an educational tool for each seminar participant. Journal entries may include topic development, the writing plan outline and research paper drafts. The seminar materials conclude with final draft guidelines that emphasis detailed editing and proofing of the research paper.
