German III: Course Description

Students who already completed German I and II at MIT, or who acquired basic German knowledge elsewhere, developed their language skills further in the original bachelor-level course. The original 'German III' lecture course was taught by Professor Dagmar Jaeger. 'German III' builds on students' previous abilities to communicate and understand written and spoken German by introducing new vocabulary and grammar. This course also exposes students to authentic German language through native sources like plays and periodicals. In this way, the course focuses on both German language and culture. Students read classic poems and short stories by Yoko Tawada and Wolfgang Borchert, among others.

This OpenCourseWare includes a reading list, essay assignments (in German) and sample student essays. If you are interested in taking this free course, visit the intermediate German course page.
