Exploring the English Language: Course Description
The course examines the change the English language underwent from the 15th to the 19th century. It further looks at the political, social and linguistic developments that brought about these changes. To understand the linguistic changes, however, a basic grammar understanding is necessary and the course first provides a grammar primer. Specific course topics include lexicography, word classes, etymology and standardization.
