Structural Devices: Course Description

The microscopic world, in a sense, powers the modern macroscopic world. Computers, for example, contain integrated circuits, some of which contain billions of microscopic transistors on a device the size of a half-dollar. But what are the principles and procedures for putting such small transistors on an integrated circuit? The course answers those questions and more by looking at the theory, processes and manufacturing of micro and nano-scale devices. Topics include etching, piezoelectricity, deposition, resonance and vibrations and short-range forces among others. The original course was designed for engineering students.

This OpenCourseWare contains lecture notes and self-assessment quizzes. If you're interested in taking this free course, visit the structural devices course page.
