Science Essay Writing OpenCourseWare: A Free Bachelor Level Science Essay Writing Class by MIT
'Science Essay' teaches students to write about science in an essay format. Students become cognizant of the purpose of their writing and the intended audience, thereby adjusting their work accordingly. This is an OpenCourseWare project by MIT. This course is part of a science writing major offered by the Department of Writing and Humanistic Studies.

The Science Essay: Course Description
Essays are a valuable means of communicating scientific ideas to the public. This OpenCourseWare from MIT, taught by Dr. Karen Boiko, offers demonstrations of this concept through readings. The course includes links to several published science essays on topics ranging from intelligent design and stem-cell debate to superfast computers and the birth control pill. Some of these readings are book reviews, which serve as examples of how reviews can also function as essays. The course covers various topics, including literary techniques, myth and science, technology and research essays. Also offered with this course are .pdf files describing homework assignments from the original MIT class, which include questions about the readings.
