Project Appraisal in Developing Countries: Course Description

In the developing world, special considerations are made when evaluating projects in order to provide the most positive impact to those communities. In this OpenCourseWare from MIT's Department of Urban Studies and Planning, students will undertake a critical analysis of the tools and techniques used when considering projects. 'Project Appraisal in Developing Countries' then analyzes the role of those techniques and how they are influenced by the politics and the economics of international development. The course materials encourage students to read about the methods used for managing projects, including financial analysis of investments and expenses. Other key issues that are considered in this course include project cycle management, alternative planning strategies and new policy development. This course is taught by MIT Professor Annette M. Kim.

The course materials include a recommending reading list and several sample assignments. To learn more, or to download course materials, visit the project appraisal in emerging countries course page.
