Key Skill Assessment Unit: Problem Solving: Course Description

This course characterizes the skill of problem solving as a 'metaskill' - that is, one that can help a person to manage their many skills through planning, choice, use and adaptation of those skills towards the effective solution of a problem. The course consists of an extensive series of notes that can help students to gauge their problem solving skills for assessment purposes and develop strategic aims for future use of their problem solving skills. The projected skills that can be gained in this course can be of use to anyone who needs to get a better handle on how they approach problem solving. After developing strategies for the use and improvement of problem solving skills, students taking this course can arrive at a summary of progress made in the development of problem solving skills. Students can also track planned changes to methods used for working (either schoolwork or professional), and create a portfolio of work that can demonstrate problem solving skills. This course would be of use to any undergraduate student or anyone looking to gain a means by which they might be able to better strategize, monitor and evaluate their problem solving skills.

The notes contained in this course are all free. If you'd like to take this course, visit the problem solving course page.
