Nonlinear Programming: Course Description

Graduate students will learn about the essentials of nonlinear optimization theory and methods in the free online 'Nonlinear Programming' OpenCourseWare. Students will learn about Newton's method, steepest descent and interior-point methods. The course also provides students with extensive lecture topics, such as Lagrangian relaxation, generalized programming, unconstrained and constrained optimization, linear and quadratic programming, semi-definite programming and Lagrange and conic duality theory. The course was taught by MIT Professor Robert Freund at the MIT campus in 2004 in a lecture session format followed by recitations held once a week. The free online course uses demonstrations in a lecture video series that includes the content topics of Newton's Method, Duality Theory I and Semidefinite Optimization I. Students will gain a visualization of equations and sample exercises in order to fully understand the concepts of nonlinear programming methods through the videos provided online.

This OpenCourseWare includes video lectures, lecture notes, recitations and study materials. If you are interested in taking this free online course, visit the nonlinear programming course page.
