Molecular, Cellular and Tissue Biomechanics: Course Description

Students using this free OpenCourseWare from MIT will build their basic knowledge of biomechanics over a range of length scales. They will learn about the mechanical properties of cells, molecules, and tissues and become familiar with the various measurement techniques used to determine these properties. Students also will explore experimental methods for examining these biological phenomena. To best understand the provided material, students should already have studied differential equations or introductory molecular biology. Knowledge of statistical or classical thermodynamics also may be helpful. Professors Matthew Lang and Roger Kamm lead this undergraduate course in mechanical engineering. Special software is required.

A list of readings, lecture and recitation notes, problem sets, exam reviews, and a term paper assignment with suggested sources are available for free online. If you're interested in taking this course, visit the Molecular, Cellular and Tissue Biomechanics course page.
