Introduction to the History of Technology: Course Description

Throughout history, various moments have drastically changed the world socially, economically, politically and even technologically. This course refers to those moments throughout history, including World War II, the eruption of Mount St. Helens, various military accomplishments and other events, which have shaped technology. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)'s School of Engineering in Cambridge, MA, offers this course, which provides students with an in-depth look at how 18th and 19th century history played a role in influencing technology and the direction. The course ventures into current-day technology and practically applies the technologies touched by history. MIT Professor David Mindell teaches this course in a lecture and discussion format. The class also covers historical moments that affected technology alongside current visionaries and scientists.
