Introduction to Electric Power Systems: Course Description

Students will learn about electric power systems in 'Introduction to Electric Power Systems' OpenCourseWare at MIT. The free course provides students with the basic knowledge of various forms of energy that consumers use on a daily basis. Students will learn about the process involved in converting electrical power systems to mechanical energy. The course also shows students different ways of transmitting and changing energy so it can be beneficial to products, such as trains, aircrafts, hybrid cars, robots, electric motors and factory machinery. The OpenCourseWare is taught by MIT Professor James Kirtley in a lecture session format. The lecture topics are provided as course notes and include readings such as power electric motor drives, network theory, symmetrical components, induction machines, electromagnetic forces and loss mechanisms. Students taking this free course should have previous knowledge in physics, circuits, electronics and electromagnetic applications.
