Database Certification Program: Requirements to Enroll in and Complete a Database Certification Program
Individuals interested in enrolling in a database certification program can choose from programs in database analysis, database administration and database development. Students must complete the required curriculum of computer classes, which varies by program, while maintaining a minimum GPA.
Database Certification Program Enrollment Requirements
Students interested in enrolling in a database certification program should be at least 16 years old and have a high school diploma or GED. To enroll in a database certification course at the college level, students must submit an application for admissions along with official high school transcripts. Database certification students may be required to take admissions tests in math, reading and writing, then meet with a counselor to go over exam results, according to Central Piedmont Community College, www.cpcc.edu. Certificate students are also encouraged to complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to find out if they qualify for any financial aid programs.
Database Certification Program Completion Requirements
Colleges have numerous database certification programs at various levels, with completion times from less than one year to nearly two years. In addition to completing required credit hours, students must maintain a 2.0 GPA to earn the certificate. The following is a list of database certificate programs:
- Database Administration: Students enrolled in this certificate course complete classes in structured query language (SQL), operating systems, data storage and retrieval, network management, systems analysis and microcomputers. Several database management certificate courses are available, ranging from 12-45 credit.
- Database Developer: Topics of study include programming, database reporting, systems design and analysis, workgroup relations and Windows development. Approximately 45 credits are required for completion.
- Database User Professional: Generally offered at the certificate of accomplishment level, this database certificate program includes advanced courses in Microsoft Access and SQL. Students also take courses to learn database problem-solving skills and basic database commands.
- Database Analyst: Required classes for completion generally include business data administrative tools, introductory programming, database concepts and spreadsheet construction and analysis. The course requires approximately 30 credits.
