Complex Numbers : Course Description

Mastery of complex numbers is an essential skill in the many fields, including electronics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, chemistry and computer programming. 'Complex Numbers' is a free course that is provided courtesy of The Open University's Mathematics and Statistics Department. The course begins with an introduction to complex numbers and the primary difference between real numbers and complex numbers. In the second section of the course, students will receive exposure to a comprehensive definition of the complex number system and will take a look at complex analysis of functions where the domains and codomains are subsets of complex numbers. The course continues with an investigation of the association between complex numbers and points on a Cartesian plane. The undergraduate-level course concludes with a closer look at subsets and the Nested Rectangles Theorem.

The material for this course includes online unit notes, audio files and PDF transcripts. In addition, student have access to several learning tools including access to a discussion forum, learning journal and knowledge map.
