Real Estate, Digital Technology, and Design: Course Description
The ultimate goal of this free OpenCourseWare is to determine how design, real estate, technology and stakeholders, including users, developers, government entities and others can work together in urban planning and development. Students begin by reviewing numerous studies of cutting-edge development projects from the United States and abroad. They examine which trends show the most promise and determine the roles of the public and private sectors in these projects. Students debate various topics, such as if and how the integration of technology affects real estate value and whether investors will see returns. This course draws on faculty resources from the real estate and urban studies and planning departments and the MIT Media Lab. It is guided by MIT instructors Professor Dennis Frenchman, Professor David Geltner, Professor William Mitchell and Susanne Seitinger.
Readings, lecture notes, handouts and assignments with student responses are available for free online.
