User Interface Design and Implementation: Course Description

As computer technologies continue to evolve, interaction between humans and computers must constantly be reevaluated and re-optimized. This OpenCourseWare offered by MIT covers the fundamentals of the design, implementation, and evaluation of user interface systems. This course focuses on three main areas, interface design, interface implementation and interface evaluation. The course intends to reinforce the importance of each and conveys to students that an interface can't be successful without each aspect being given due attention. More specific topics discussed in the course will include measurable human capabilities such as perception and attention, along with techniques for designing, building and evaluating user interfaces such as user-centered design, prototypes and user testing, respectively. Professor Robert Miller will provide this OpenCourseWare's lecture notes online. Additionally, this OpenCourseWare will include problem set homework assignments and practice exams with solutions. This course is ideal for graduate students preparing for a Master of Science in Computer Science.

Lecture notes and the related reading assignments will be provided online, along with the homework assignments and quizzes. More information on this free course is available at the OpenCourseWare user interface design and implementation home page.
