Systems Analysis of the Nuclear Fuel Cycle: Course Description

The nuclear fuel cycle, also known as the nuclear fuel chain, describes the process of preparing, using and disposal of nuclear fuel. In MIT's 'Systems Analysis of the Nuclear Fuel Cycle' OpenCourseWare, students explore both the scientific and policy-related issues that affect the nuclear fuel chain. Technical subjects covered in the course include applied reactor physics, uranium sources, the fabrication of enriched fuel, and the process of recycling and disposing of nuclear waste products. The course also addresses government nuclear nonproliferation policies and the safe disposal of weapons-grade plutonium. This undergraduate-level course is taught by Massachusetts Institute of Technology Professor Mujid Kazimi.

Lecture notes, lab assignments, problem sets and suggested final projects are available for download on the course website. To learn more, visit the nuclear fuel chain course page.
