Public Economics I: Course Description

This OpenCourseWare class presents classroom materials from 'Public Economics I,' an MIT course originally taught by Professors James Poterba and Ivan Werning. Materials can help economics students practice applying mathematical models of tax theory to given scenarios. Sample problems include finding the Stone-Geary utility function, determining equilibrium interest rates and calculating values in a steady state economy. Some of the problems make use of MATLAB computational software for plotting functions. Answer sheets that supply solutions along with explanations of how those solutions were reached accompany all of the problem sets. This material is recommended for students studying for a Master of Science in Economics degree.

This online course includes sample assignments with answers and a recommended reading list. To make use of this free content, visit the public economics course page.
