Plate Tectonics: Course Description

'Plate Tectonics' is an intermediate-level undergraduate course offered by The Open University's Science Department. This course teaches students about the history of continental movement and the effects of these movements on geological structures. Students also learn about the theory of plate tectonics, which explains the three types of plate boundaries, as well as why and how plates move. OpenCourseWare students will learn about the physical history of the earth, starting with Pangaea and ending in contemporary time. This course will teach readers the mathematical equations that support plate tectonics and continental drift. This course will take approximately 15 hours to complete.

The online course materials include unit notes, student learning journals and discussion forums. To download course materials, or to learn more, visit the effects of plate tectonics course page.
