Students hoping for a career in network administration can choose from several levels of network administration programs. These levels include associate's degrees, diplomas, bachelor's degrees and master's degrees. Courses can be taken online from many universities. Graduates of online network administration degree programs design, build and maintain networks for companies. Graduates can also build and maintain computers, support computer users and develop web sites.

Online Network Administration Degree Enrollment Requirements

Many network administration programs lead to an associate's degree. An Associate of Applied Science in network administration can be taken at a 2-year community college; programs are offered through a school's online division or through a university that is purely online. Students wishing to enroll should have earned their high school diploma or GED.

Network administration diplomas are available to students who wish to complete a program in about a year. Requirements for enrollment include a high school diploma or GED and, most often, a passing grade of 70% on an entrance exam. The entrance exam shows that students have basic reading and writing skills and some technological knowledge.

Bachelor's degree degree programs are meant for students who wish to earn a comprehensive degree that includes general education classes and network administration classes. In order to enroll in a bachelor's degree program, students need to submit ACT or SAT scores and may need to fulfill additional requirements. Bachelor's degrees are the minimum requirement for many network administration jobs.

Master's degree programs in network administrators are designed for students who have already earned a bachelor's degree in network administration or a related area. In addition to submitting college transcripts and filling out an application, applicants may need to take the GRE.

Completing an Online Network Administration Degree

Students enrolled in online network administration degrees learn how to use current hardware and software. Students explore networks and complete several IT projects. Students should expect courses in computer science, business, graphic design, network administration organization and network administration performance. They may learn how to use computer programming language and how to set up wide and local area networks. Students in an online program may need access to powerful computers and specialized software.

Students in associate's and bachelor's degree programs take some general education courses in addition to network administration classes. Master's degree students complete their program in about two years and only take specialized network administration classes. Most programs include applied projects and theoretical study.
