Managing Innovation: Course Description

'Managing Innovation' was created to introduce Leaders for Manufacturing grad students at MIT to crucial innovation areas that are relevant to managers. The course begins by exploring open source materials that challenge intellectual property norms. Next, 'Managing Innovation' shows students how innovation is increasingly distributed over many independent and isolated individuals, rather than centered in a group of people that share a single physical location. Last, the course focuses on ways that firms can construct 'innovation toolkits' that allow these independent and isolated individuals to participate in the innovation process remotely. MIT Professor Eric von Hippel taught the original 'Managing Innovation,' course at MIT using a lecture approach.

'Managing Innovation' OpenCourseWare includes a reading list and lecture notes in .pdf format. To get more details about this free online class from MIT, explore the innovation management course page.
