This OpenCourseWare is provided by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)'s School of Engineering in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and covers the social, economic and environmental impacts of transportation as well as the focuses of engineers as they design a system. Students learn how transportation systems are evaluated, using such factors as cost, stability, reliability and safety. Professors Joseph Sussman and Nigel Wilson teach this course from MIT that provides an overview of aspects of transportation systems, including proper structural design and maintenance. Learn how where you live, how you get to work and cost influence the development and usefulness of transportation systems.
Notes, lectures and study materials like tests, quizzes and assignments are available for free online. To take this free OpenCourseWare, visit the introduction to transportation systems course page.
