Intermediate Japanese I: Course Description

'Intermediate Japanese I' was offered in MIT's Foreign Languages and Literatures Department by Professors Miyuki Hatano-Cohen, Ayumi Nagatomi and Yoshimi Nagaya. They taught the original 'Intermediate Japanese I' lecture course. While some students enrolled in this challenging course to fulfill language requirements, others used it as a building block towards a B.S. degree with a major or minor in Japanese. In addition to working on their listening and speaking skills, students in 'Intermediate Japanese I' mastered about 80 new Kanji characters and expanded their reading speed and comprehension. There was a special emphasis in this course on developing spoken fluency in Japanese, rather than relying on memorized dialogues.

Numerous Japanese language study materials are available on 'Intermediate Japanese I' OpenCourseWare, including downloadable readings, exams with answers, vocabulary reviews, online quizzes, visual vocabulary aids, a list of assignments and additional course details.
