Genomics and Computational Biology: Course Description

Dr. George Church, from the Department of Health Sciences and Technology at MIT, is the instructor for this free course. 'Genomics and Computational Biology' is concerned with the analysis of databases that contains gene expression data and the biological information specific to each gene. The course, which is delivered as a series of lectures and supplementary sessions, exposes students to a wide range of relevant topics, including computational biology, comparative genomics, systems biology, molecular computing and genetic algorithms. Students will study algorithms, statistics, and databases and gain valuable insights by completing the problems sets that are provided. In addition, the instructor discusses simulation methods and practical approaches to biotechnology, drug research and genetic engineering.

The course materials include lecture notes that are available in MP3 and PDF files that students can download on their computers. There are also problem sets and a reading list available. If you are interested in taking this course, visit the genomics and computational biology course page.
