As more and more aspects of our lives take place on computers, we become more vulnerable to cyber crime. Therefore, professionals who have an educational background in cyber security will continue to be in high demand.

Cyber Security Online Degree Program Enrollment Requirements

Enrollment requirements for online cyber security degree programs vary depending on the level one is seeking. Online bachelor's degree programs in cyber security require the student to have graduated from high school or completed a GED. He or she must complete the college's application process, which, for online colleges, generally consists of completing an application form, submitting official transcripts and paying an application fee. Most schools offer online orientation for new students to familiarize themselves with the interfaces they will be using. There are also master's degree options in cyber security available online, and these degrees require that the student has obtained an undergraduate degree in a related field.

Cyber Security Online Degree Program Completion Requirements

To complete the online bachelor's degree in cyber security requires students to finish coursework in cyber security tools, attack detection, legal issues in cyber security, collecting electronic evidence, data monitoring and manipulation and programming. Students learn about the basics, including hardware and software, as well as more specialized topics, such as online forensics to solve cyber crimes. A bachelor's degree takes anywhere from two or more years, depending on how many credits are completed per semester.

An online master's degree in cyber security is an option for those who have already obtained a bachelor's degree in a related field, such as cyber security, computer networking or computer science. This degree focuses more on digital forensics, hacking, legal issues in cyber security and advanced programming. Students can expect to complete hands-on work that is typical of what they would experience working in the field.
