Contemporary Literature: Course Description

The 'Contemporary Literature' MIT OpenCourseWare focuses on fiction and poetry written by twentieth-century Irish authors. Through close reading and analysis of a wide variety of texts, students study the recent social history of Ireland and its relationship to Irish literary culture. Authors covered in the course include James Joyce, William Butler Yeats, Samuel Beckett and Seamus Heaney, among many others. This undergraduate course offers useful information for students of English, Literature, History or Irish culture. 'Contemporary Literature' was originally taught in a lecture format on the MIT campus by Professor John Hildebidle.
