An associate's program in Computer Science offers the hands-on courses needed for an entry-level position as a computer technician, while a bachelor's program adds management classes to the advanced technical coursework. Students in a master's program in Computer Science focus on research and theoretical concepts. Among the schools offering Computer Science programs are the University of California, Pennsylvania State University and North Carolina State University.

Associate of Applied Science in Computer Science

An associate's degree program in Computer Science prepares students for such entry-level jobs as programmers, network administrators and technical support team members. A 2-year Computer Science program can also serve as a foundation for a bachelor's degree. A typical program covers topics related to hardware, software and data transmission.

Bachelor of Science in Computer Science

At the bachelor's level, Computer Science programs include advanced courses in math and science in addition to technical courses. Students may also be expected to take classes in technical writing and communication because of the likelihood that graduates will pursue management positions. A 4-year bachelor's degree in Computer Science qualifies graduates for careers in information technology, database management and software development, among others.

Master of Science in Computer Science

Students in a master's program in Computer Science are taught theoretical computer concepts and advanced technical subjects related to the development, maintenance and upgrading of computer systems. Graduates of a master's program in Computer Science are qualified to work as information technology professionals in large corporations, government agencies and other private and public institutions. Master's graduates also enter such fields as Computer Science research, consultating and teaching.
