Dilemmas in Bio-medical Ethics: Playing God or Doing Good' Course Description

This OpenCourseWare from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology looks at the ethical challenges that new medical technologies pose to the practice and availability of these technologies. Case studies focus on issues, such as abortion, organ transplantation, cloning and end-of-life care. These issues shed light on the ethical foundations of western bio-medicine. The course looks at such issues from anthropological, cross-cultural, political, religious, legal and feminist perspectives. MIT Professor Erica James teaches this free undergraduate bio-medical ethics course. This MIT OpenCourseWare about bio-medical ethics includes detailed lecture notes, paper assignments and examples of students' papers.
