Biogeochemistry of Sulfur: Course Description

In this OpenCourseWare, offered by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, students will explore the presence of sulfur in atmospheric gases and geological formations. The course will discuss what scientists can learn about biogeochemistry and astrobiology from sulfur isotopes recorded in Earth's early atmosphere, as well as the information obtained from the presence of sulfur isotope biosignatures in Earth rocks and Martian meteorites. Other topics covered in the 'Biogeochemistry of Sulfur' OpenCourseWare include global sulfur cycles, sulfur isotope fractionation, the role of sulfur in sediment transformation and much more. This graduate-level course is taught by MIT Professors Shuhei Ono and Roger Summons.

Papers written by previous students and a list of suggested readings are offered on the course website. If you're interested in taking this free online course, visit the sulfur biogeochemistry course page.
