The Production of Space: Art, Architecture and Urbanism in Dialogue: Course Description
While space is a fundamental concept in architecture, art and urban environments, this free course challenges students to create their own interpretation of space by drawing on class readings, discussions, lectures and guest artist presentations. Professor Ute Meta Bauer leads this seminar class through readings and dialogues in cultural theory, art and architecture. This OpenCourseWare lets future architects and visual designers examine the way public spaces are created through a combination of social norms, design and individual perspective. This free course also covers the destruction of public space via privatization, embedded art in urban landscapes and the nature of democratic space, the res publica. In this course, students work together to design spaces that incorporate theories from the class material to create a unique spatial narrative. This course is designed for graduate students in a Visual Design or Architecture degree program.
This OpenCourseWare provides guest speaker videos, selected readings, related resources and past student projects. To access these materials, visit the production of space course page.
