Women's and Gender Studies: Course Description

The suffrage of women changed how women are depicted in the media, women's role in politics and women in the workplace. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)'s School of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences in Cambridge, MA, provides this course as an overview of how women's role in culture, society and politics changed and what that means for today's women. The course is designed as an introduction for undergraduate students studying women's studies and covers oppression and the changing gender roles. Students learn about the modern woman's role in her family, at work and in politics. MIT Professor Kim Surkan teaches this course about contemporary feminism and women's changing roles. Other topics include sexuality and violence against women.
