Experiences in Interactive Art: Course Details

This 'Special Topics in Multimedia Production' course looks at art as a medium with active audience participation. Classroom discussions with visiting artists focus on motifs, reasons for making art interactive and the role of technology in creating an interactive art experience, reflected in the related materials for the OpenCourseWare class. The reading list focuses on narrative and how the meaning and process of narrative changes when the audience becomes part of the creative process. Practical aspects of interactive art are explored as students create their own interactive art exhibit. Related resources for this OpenCourseWare seminar include online examples of interactive artworks for students to experience firsthand. The course is taught by MIT professors Stephen Benton and Glorianna Davenport, with TA Ali Mazalek and visiting artists.

This opencourse contains readings, assignments and Web-based art experiences. If you are interested in this OpenCourseWare project, visit the interactive art and multimedia page.
