Internet Technology in Local and Global Communities: Course Description

The MIT-African Internet Technology Initiative (MIT-AITI) is a project that sends MIT students to African nations to instruct students and teachers on the use of computer technology. This course is based on that project, particularly their work in teaching the Java programming language. The OpenCourseWare materials offered here include lecture notes with guidance on teaching in Africa, medical advice and tips on communicating with members of different cultures. This is accompanied by video of a presentation by Professor Richard C. Larson on technology and education in developing countries. The course also includes extensive notes, lab materials and exams with solutions on programming for Java. Students seeking a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or those interested in teaching in other countries may benefit from this course.

This free OpenCourseWare includes lecture notes, lab problems and exams with solutions, descriptions of final projects and links to related resources. To learn more about Java programming or the AITI initiative, visit the IT in global communities course page.
