As national economies become increasingly globalized and interdependent, managers and citizens alike are taking the time to understand how these changes will affect corporations and societies, respectively. 'Global Markets, National Policies & the Competitive Advantages of Firms', a graduate level management course from MIT, is designed to guide individuals through the implications of global economic change. Taught by MIT Professor Richard Locke, 'Global Markets, National Policies & the Competitive Advantages of Firms' explores the effects that changes in products, services, capital and the labor market will have on specific firms and industries and the ever-changing relationship between the market and the state, both within and between nations. It looks at the risks and opportunities encountered by firms in the current global market as well as how social institutions and governments affect economic competition between firms in diverse national surroundings. Different industries and companies that have operations in emerging and developing markets are examined in terms of how institutions and public policies mold rival outcomes. This course is a part of the Master of Science in Management Studies concentration in international business management. The format of the course is lectures and seminars.
