Field Geology I: Course Description

'Field Geology I' is taught by Professor B. Clark Burchfiel and Teaching Assistant Ben Crosby through the Department of Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. This course gives students a first-hand look at digital and traditional techniques used to gather data in geological field studies. Students spend the first half of the semester learning about the geological history of North America and the second half of the semester focuses on utilizing different techniques to measure and collect data. Students will learn both the digital and traditional techniques used in geological field studies as well as how to prepare a field handbook. Students can feel as though they are in the field camp themselves, learning directly from Professor Burchfiel, by utilizing the links to his lecture notes where he provides pictures with detailed descriptions.
