Civil and Environmental Engineering Design OpenCourseWare: A Free Bachelor Level Engineering Course by MIT
The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) offers its 'Civil and Environmental Engineering Design I' course as free OpenCourseWare. The original course was created for undergraduates in MIT's Civil and Environmental Engineering degree programs and guides students through the design processes that they'll put to use as engineers designing public works projects.

Civil and Environmental Engineering Design I: Course Description
Although the original architect of the MIT 'Civil and Environmental Engineering Design I' course was Professor Harold Hemond, the version available in OpenCourseWare was taught by Professors Louis Bucciarelli, Herbert Einstein and Heidi Nepf (Stephen Rudolph provided technical instruction). In this design course, which is usually taken by sophomore-level Civil and Environmental engineering majors, students conduct experiments and complete design projects that involve large-scale systems, water resources and structures. For example, students in 'Civil and Environmental Engineering Design' complete a conceptual design for the development of a 50,000 resident metro area. The original engineering design course contained both lecture and lab components.
'Civil and Environmental Engineering Design I' OpenCourseWare gives the public access to safety instructions, the 'delta game', instructions for the lab experiments and assignments and links to related course material. If you'd like tackle these engineering design tasks, you can download instructions at the engineering design course page.
