Behavior of Algorithms: Course Description

In Professor Daniel Spielman's course 'Behavior of Algorithms,' students analyze the performance of algorithms using three different approaches, including smoothed analysis, condition numbers and parametric analysis and subclassing inputs. This course is offered by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Over the course of 19 lectures and readings, students will explore a variety of topics, including condition numbers, spectral partitioning, von Neumann's algorithm and Gaussian random constraints. Students are required to use the MATLAB software package, for some of the required analysis. Before embarking on this course, students will need graduate-level knowledge of algorithms or numerical analysis.

This OpenCourseWare includes lecture notes and a list of suggested readings. Students interested in completing the course should visit the behavior of algorithms course web page.
