Analyzing and Accounting for Regional Economic Change: Course Description

Rapid population growth raises many challenging issues for regional economies, including increased demands for food and goods, political and industrial innovations and networking. All of these needs are affected by an increasingly globalized economy. The 'Analyzing and Accounting for Regional Economic Change' OpenCourseWare discusses these issues with an emphasis on changes due to regional economic and population growth. This OpenCourseWare from MIT's Department of Urban Studies and Planning offers a comprehensive look at these issues using several economic analysis methods, while covering basic challenges, assumptions and arguments related to these theories. Students will also examine and evaluate the accounting methodologies used to assess the factors that influence regional population growth. This course is taught by MIT Professors Karen R. Polenske and Ciro Biderman.
