American Classics: Course Description

This course investigates the Puritans, the Constitutional Convention, slave narratives and the Lincoln Douglas Debates. Individuals who have had an impact on American history such as Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Paine, Frederick Douglas and Harriet Beecher Stowe are also discussed. This free OpenCourseWare from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology is taught by Professor Pauline Maier. This course aims to improve students' writing skills through a variety of assignments. The goal of this course is to provide students with an understanding of the meaning of historical texts and their significance on American culture. Students who want to learn more about the American Classics, or who plan on taking more literature courses will benefit from taking this course.
