Students can learn about a variety of mid 20th-century topics, including the Great Depression, the New Deal, the Normandy Invasion and the atomic bomb in this free OpenCourseWare from MIT. 'America in Depression and War' explores these topics through a study of the media and other historical documents. Students can learn how the Great Depression and World War II changed American politics and society. Through readings and assignments students will explore issues such as unemployment, organized labor and the women in the war effort. Students who are interested in American history, or who plan to take additional History courses will benefit from taking this course. Professor Meg Jacobs teaches this undergraduate-level class.
